I just received from my friends at TLAVideo the DVD of The line of beauty. This is the movie adapted from one of my favorite novels of Alan Hollinghurst. He actually won the Booker prize with this one. Hopefully we will have time this Sunday to watch it.

Danny Hoeksema from Bovenkarspel

In De Volkskrant Magazine of this week, the 13 year old Danny Hoeksema from the Northern town of Bovenkarspel say that his upbringing is ok. His parents knew from the start that Danny was gay and encouraged him to come out when the time was there. In the typical "Just act normal" and direct way of Dutch people from the north of Holland, Danny's story is really endearing.

National History Museum at the University of Oslo has just opened a first-ever museum exhibition dedicated to gay animals. “Against Nature?” does not tell zoologists anything new. Homosexuality has been recorded in some 1,500 species so far, and been well documented in about a third of these cases; it has been known since the time of Aristotle, who thought he witnessed two male hyenas having sex with one another. Scientists have often turned a blind eye on animal homosexuality. In one study are where over 95 % of all sexual activity was between males, the researcher noted it as “sparring”, a form of ritual combat... :-)

Kieskompas

Because i was not happy at all with the results of Stemwijzer in giving me an advise for the general elections in November, I tried a new website, kieskompas which promises a better result. I a have to say that I am more happy with this wesbite and the result indeed.
I now have to vote for the CDA (which I will certainly NOT do of course , but VVD is on number 2. Best however is that they also give you an advise on the best coalition with would suit your believes and opinions and in my case that would be VVD/PvdA, which is spot on.

Old shoes

Thijs sent me this link of a website that offers old (used and new) Nike shoes. Some cost more then $8500...
I had to think immediately of my first pair of Nikes back in the 1970´s. The Nike court shoes.
I had them just as the picture above, only then with a red swoosh. The teared in the back and the tongue and real foam in them. Since then I am hooked to sneakers. :-)

With stemwijzer (vote adviser) I did a little test to find out which party has the same opinion about important issues as I do. Oops! I got the advise to vote for very right wing parties....
Guess I will vote VVD (liberals) anyway...
Interesting to see at stemwijzer that 90% of the dutch population is in favor of euthanasia, 50% is for legalizing soft drugs, a majority wants statutory rights for animals and wants to abolish double nationalities.
