To continue an UK tradition - I collected a few more new thimbles this journey...

Brugge

The Allied memorial of the 350.000 men evacuated in a couple of days May 1940.

Blind Donkey Street?

Before we headed to Brugge, we had some extra time left and visited Duinkerken - which was completely bombed away during WWII - so not much left to see. In Brugge things are rather different: nothing changed there since the Middle ages - which is great :-)

Underneath the channel with the Chunnel

The crossing of the channel goes very fast and efficient with the Chunnel railways. Every 15 minutes a train is leaving and after 30m or so you are in France. We had a very nice ride along the coast and trough the rolling hills before we ended up at Marc Meurin for a gastronomic feast.

Wet feet, a Castle and a black Prince

Canterbury

Along the coast we rode to Canterbury. We saw the white cliffs (no not those of Dover, but the Seven Sisters) and a great castle on the way. In Canterbury we are staying at the Lodge next to the ca thedral -which is actually an amazing unique location. It is the place where normally Anglican Bishops are staying when they visit the mother church. Canterbury is a quiet little town (after 20:00 that is when all the tourists are gone) and it was a sort of spiritual stay here next to more then 1400 years of history and devotion.

Brighton and a few statues

We continued through the Sussex woods and visited Petworth House, which probably is better renamed tp Petworth Museum. A tremendous art collection of dozens of van Dijck, Breugel, Turner and many Greek and Roman Statues. Our destination was Brighton, where we visited The Royal Pavilion and the beach of course...

William Walker: the diver that saved Winchester Cathedral

Jane Austen
Soldiers everywhere
A very nice ride through the Cotwolds brought us to Salisbury and finally in Winchester. Home of the famous Winchester Cathedral with among others the grave of no other then Jane Austen. The Cathedral was saved from ruin by a diver who helped to restore the foundations in the 1960's.

Nice Mill in the Cotswold
The weather is more sunny today - which is nice while driving, but less when walking around. Anyway there are lots of things to see. Houses for sure, but also sweet landscapes and tranquil villages with thatched roofed houses. We ended up in Cheltenham.
