Tracking wristbands

It seems that THE next thing in tracking will be the wristband; after the original Jawbone  and the Nike Fuel now Fitbit and LG have announced that they will bring out wristbands too. The Fuelband has set a certain standard in GUI and comfort that the others are now following - LG is even supposed to have pulse, GPS and TXT - the new upcoming Nike should be way thinner. Things are only just starting...

Robopocalypse is still on

There were some rumors that Steven Spielberg abandoned  the Robopocalypse project (see my earlier post about when I met writer Daniel Wilson) Luckily according to EW this is not true and Spielberg is working on it right now.

Amour and the oscar goes to Emmanuelle Riva

Wow - this is a gripping powerful film about getting older, dying and above all eternal love. It makes clear that we probably all have to face the dilemma whether Life is still human or not. Emmanuelle Riva acts on the micro mm with her expressions and you can feel deep in you what here emotions are in this film - I cannot imagine an other winner of this years Oscar...

Richard Blanco 2013 inaugural poet

Richard Blanco has  less than two weeks to compose an original poem for the president’s ceremonial swearing-in on the steps of the Capitol on Jan. 21. Luckily he is a brilliant poet as this poem (which I really like) shows:

Maybe
(For Craig)
Maybe it was the billboards promising
paradise, maybe those fifty-nine miles
with your hand in mine, maybe my sexy
roadster, the top down, maybe the wind
fingering your hair, sun on your thighs
and bare chest, maybe it was just the ride
over the sea split in two by the highway
to Key Largo, or the idea of Key Largo.
Maybe I was finally in the right place
at the right time with the right person.
Maybe there’d finally be a house, a dog
named Chu, a lawn to mow, neighbors,
dinner parties, and you forever obsessed
with crossword puzzles and Carl Young,
reading in the dark by the moonlight,
at my bedside every night. Maybe. Maybe
it was the clouds paused at the horizon,
the blinding fields of golden sawgrass,
the mangrove islands tangled, inseparable
as we might be. Maybe I should’ve said
something, promised you something,
asked you to stay a while, maybe.

Malaysia

Today we flew back to Amsterdam. It was a long flight - but rather comfortable thanks to KLM. Malaysia was a great adventure - from the amazing nature and wildlife in Borneo to the coast and islands of the rest of Malaysia. The people were super friendly and the weather (although still hot) perfect for the time of the year. This is something you have to see and do once in a lifetime - so we did and loved it every second (except for the seconds that the mosquito's got us again that is...)

In Malacca you can still see and feel the Dutch

The last stop on our Malaysia journey was Malacca. Here the Dutch had a trade post for more the 200 years (1600 - 1800) and you can still see remains of that era. It is a bit touristic fro the rest - but fun to spend a few days. As everywhere: here too the Malays are building and building.

Build like a traditional water village this resort in Dickport in the south west of malaysia was giving us that "authentic simple village life" feeling ;-)
