In my own experience I found it strange to find San Francisco here in the list (ok there is this nice Golden Bridge biking tour – but for the rest of the city, cars rule) and not e.g. Bejing - remember Katie Melua’s nine million bicycles...

Ramanujan: The Indian Clerk
The new novel of David Leavitt is about Ramanujan, the brilliant Indian mathematician who surprised everyone in the beginning of the 20th century with his Ramanujan prime and the Ramanujan theta function. The book is however focussed on the relationship between Ramanujan and the guy who brings him to Cambridge, Hardy.

Making Money (literally)
"Die Faelscher" (The Counterfeiter) is a German Movie about the real story of jews making British pounds and American dollars in Sachenhausen during WWII. It is an intelligent, moving picture with lots of things to think about.
eBooks: here I come!
I have been thinking of buying the Sony eBook reader ever since I saw it in Tokyo back in uh..2005 I guess. The thousands of eBooks now available (via shops or torrents) make it rather interesting to have such a device.
Now however a far superior eBook has surfaced: The iLiad from the Dutch (ex-Philips) company iRex. I have read all the reviews and seen it at the local bookshop and am impressed.
So the iLiad it will be, if only this crazy format war in eBooks would stop. There are dozens of different formats (adobe, Microsoft, gutenberg etc. etc.) which demand there own DRM system and codecs. I found some interesting conversion tools already so let the download begin. Oh, you're right better first buy the iLiad... :-)

The results of Anton Philips collecting antiques is now for sale at Christies. It is the result of collecting the old fashion way: lots of copper, tin, wood and other stuff that we don't appreciate that much anymore.
Apple Leopard is super cool.
I just finished installing leopard on all (3) my macs and it is really cool. Preview, smart folders, coverflow, time machine: you name it. It really makes life easier and so much more fun. So close your Windows: The Leopard is loose!

innovative museum curator to Robert Mapplethorpe’s lover and patron is intensively probed in Black White + Gray. I really would like to watch his documentary by James Crump. Sam became the lover and mentor of Robbert Mapplethorpe, So it is also thanks to him that we have these super duper pictures.
Wagstaff’s collection of over 2,500 masterworks from both the nineteenth and twentieth centuries became part of the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles in 1984. He died of AIDS in 1989.

Simon Carmiggelt
Because I bought the complete works of Dutch movie maker Bert Haanstra, I came across a film he made with (and about) Simon Carmiggelt called "You used to laugh about it". Simon wrote after the second world war every day a short story in a newspaper. These stories (Kronkels) were very funny and populair. Some of them are fixed in the collective Dutch memory. I started rereading them this week and most of them didn't lost their charm at all, even after 50 years or so.

Zomoto File Gadget is Live!
Finally: the Zomoto File Gadget is live. After weeks of hard work we managed to put the gadget all together and today we informed the press and friends and other curious people that they could start using the gadget.
For a long time we called the gadget a widget, but it turns out that all the major players on the net call it a gadget in stead of a widget...
The gadget show the actual time to travel on pre-programmed routes and so helps you to avoid traffic jams. If their is a traffic jam it turns into an other color and shows the lenght of the journey. If you click on the gadget it redirects you to locatienet.nl and show you how long the traffic jam is en where you can expect more jams...

New Gadget
Found a new Blackberry 8218 (curve) on Ebay Germany. Nice with GPS, camera, extra memory, MP3 etc. etc.
Hope that the seller will ship it soon.

Saw Shoot 'Em up today. Strange movie with about 500 killings. Feels more like a game then a movie. Nice!
Interpol CSI Amsterdam
Remember that guy in the newspapers that appeared on disgusting child porn with his face distorted which an expert team from Interpol tried to uncover (which they really did a good job at see above)? I tried it myself with Photoshop CS3 and it turns out to be a simple "trick". An other proof that whenever you make alterations with photoshop do not be so sure that other people cannot recover the retouch. Guess I have to be more carefull in the future... :-)
Al is the Next President!
The Nobel Prize for peace will be announced tomorrow in Oslo and Al Gore is head and shoulders above the other 181 candidates. After he will get this award (next to the Oscar and Emmy) there is no way that he can resist to run for president, and after doing that, being the next president of the U.S.A.... Let's cross our fingers!
