We are on our way!

We are on our way to discover World War I. The purpose of this trip is
to visit the mayor battlefields and try to imagine the madness of this
war which costs millions their lives and had new inventions like the
airplane, zeppelin, tank, automatic weapons, gas attacks caused the
collapse of 4 empires (Russia, Germany, Turkey and Austria), changed
the map of the world and started - in the end WW II. June 28 1914 Franz
Ferdinand was killed in Sarajevo and already August 4 the German troops
entered -neutral- Belgium. We will follow the troops and battles. So
moving from east to west and then south.

Family of Man at Clervaux

We had an extra day in Gulpen, so decided to head to Clervaux in Luxembourg to see the exhibition 'Familiy of Man' at Chateaux Clervaux. This is a collection of great photos put together by Edward Steichen, curator of the MoMa in the 1940s. It traveled all around the globe attrackting millions of people before settling down here at the chateaux. It was a great trip to - passing the highest peak in Belgium and riding through forrests and valleys.

Net TV from Philips - the next big FLOP

Why don't big companies don't learn from earlier mistakes. Net-TV is doomed to fail from the start. It is way to expensive and even worse: Has the highest walled garden ever invented. We

At the 2009 TEFAF

We started our World War I motor trip today by riding to Maastricht and
attend the VIP opening of The European Fine Art Fair.As usual: this is
the place to be. To see other people and to be seen. Maastricht airport
is full with private jets - all hotels are fully booked and on the
parkings deck of the MECC no car under the 100.000 euro is to be seen.
People dress up and for a couple of hours the financial crisis seem not
the exist...
Eddie and I where a little underdressed in our motor gear - but not so
badly dressed as most in ill fitting cheap suits and dresses ;-)
We especially liked the statue of Telemachos at our old friend Robert Bowman. We are still in touch whether to aquire this. Late at night we returned to our hotel at Gulpen.

Entrepeneur of the week

I am entrepeneur of the week on the website "Ondernemen: juist nu!" ...

Would you pay this guy 7 million euro to have SEX with him?

This ugly guy is Helg Sgarbi (44) and he is accused of seducing Germany’s
richest woman, making a secret video of them having passionate sex in a
hotel bedroom.  The woman is of course 46-year-old Susanne Klatten (worth around £8.5 billion), amongst other things he told her that he needed Euros 7 million because he had injured a
little girl in a car crash in Florida. Mrs Klatten complied and handed over
the cash in the hotel’s underground car park.WHY???
Next time you need a friend Susanne: call me! ;-)

The two amigos

Marley & Me

You would expect that a movie about a dog is a sort of Disney Trash, but this story is actually worthwhile to watch. Owen Wilson plays -as usual- himself and is really good at it. And if you still don't want to have a dog after this movie there is something serious;y wrong with you.

Many thanks to Marijn in helping to compile this list. At the end of the day, at this moment of time I personally think with all due respect that you are 24/7 an absolutely fairly unique person (but that's not rocket science)...

New Motorbike goodies

I had to buy a new helmet ;-)
No really because it is the only way to communicate with Eddie while riding my bike. In all their wisdom manufactures of helmets have chosen their proprietary bluetooth communication systems - so if you want to connect you both need the same brand helmet.

Arie Boomsma is no pinup any longer

Arie Boomsma is presenter of the Evangelical Broadcast Cooperation and famous for his program "40 days without SEX". It seems that he himself is never withour sex and he likes to strip for magazine spreads. The Network has now suspended him for 3 months. Poor Arie ;-)

At the Lexus HQ in Raamsdonksveer I saw this sweet cut Lexus RX 350 model.

How we decide

Jonah Lehrer (from Proust was a neuroscientist) wrote a new book: "How we decide". Scary enough it starts with a sequence about the decisions a pilot must make just after motor failure - what a coincidence  after the latest Schiphol crash. It's a very well written book and fun to read.

Marijn with iPhone # 3...

I completely destroyed Marijns' all new iPhone yesterday morning when I tried to place the SIM card the wrong way. She only had it for a half hour after her first iphone broke down earlier this month. Nothing could be done to save her iPhone - so we had to go to the store and get her a new (third) one... She wasn't all that happy at first but after she got her new baby things were Ok again ;-))

twitter did it again...

After the horrible Gmail meltdown this week - today with the airplane crash on Schiphol Twitter was again the medium of choice. here you could get the latest updates from witnesses on the scene.
I now have my blog posts, last.fm favorites, zomoto blog posts, twitpics etc. automated - so my tweets are almost all automaticly generated...

New Toy

For a mere € 200 I found this sturdy (auminium case) HP netbook. It had SUSE linux installed, but after a half hour or so I switched to Windows (XP). It's great for those surfing cravings on the road.

Sundays' Best: 10 Reasons to be cheerful, part I

While the world is in deep recession and everyone a bit gloomy I wondered: are there any reasons left to be cheerful?
After a quick moment I found at least ten..
1. You only get 1 life - so make the most of it
2. If you are in good health and shape - what's left to worry about
3. If you have the love of your live right next besides you
4. If your job is your hobby
5. If you are surrounded by people who care about you
6. If you can travel and meet other cultures
7. If you have everything to live a comfortable life
8. If you even have some unnecessary stuff too
9. If you do crazy things
10. Oh, yeh and always remember: there's no tno thing like a part II

Smart shopping during these difficult times...

It seems that every retailer has one or the other discount action going on. Dicount stickers, discount shopping bags, no VAT or just an overall 15 to 20% off all items. What ever keepd the customers coming. If you really want a bargain, you might want to shop at portero were you can find luxery items for reasonable prizes like this Hermes Birkin bag for a mere $34074.00 (yes that's thirty four THOUSAND dollar - Oh yeh: and seventy four dollar...) Crisis: what crisis?

The end of Chrysler?

Nothing lost here. Better today then tomorrow...

The end of Saab?

The classic Saab 99 is really one of my all time favorite cars. Rumor has it that GM is abandoning Saab after efficiently killing over the last decade. Let's hope for a miracle and that someone will save Saab. I promise if they survive and develop a non-Opel model, I will buy one.

The end of Pontiac?

Driving a pontiac used to be pure excitement, now it is pure frustration. So no wonder GM is killing this brand.

Birthday Dinner

We had dinner at Lana Pura - Indonesian restaurant. They have this weird tradition to give you an orchid which you are supose to wear behind your ear. Left if you are free, Right when you are engaged. So we all had to wear the flowers on the right side ;-)

What were they thinking?

Slumdog Millionaire

I really liked Slumdog Millionaire - which makes clever use of the game show suspense while combing the beauty of India, its people and its music with the cruel reality of a society which still revolves about castes...
