Citizen of the year dinner - the official pictures :-)

Thanks to Meg and Jake for the pictures. It was funny to see people whole dressed up whom you previously only knew in bathing gear...

All set for the ceremony

dress code - business casual :-)
the reception was packed

wow - this really looks official stuff

Mason making last moment alterations in his speech

Hundreds of people from Lafayette were gathered to pay Karen tribute. It was a fun, emotional and official dinner where the "nine lifes" of Karen were explained by friends, family and local dignitaries.  It turned out that Karen made quite an impact of this city with your work at the schools, library and other institutions. And it was very nice and moving to see that this work is being recognized.
Also it was nice to meet the family and friends and the whole evening was something not to forget.

Breakfast in Lafayette

So Karen, Tom and Meg were all aware of our coming to the citizen of the year dinner - the only one we could surprise was Mason. Which we did at breakfast the day after we arrived. I was surprised by the very modest breakfast he had ;-)

White iPad 2.0 - A no go!

Yes: it's a little lighter, has a (terrible) camera and a bit thinner - but the iPad 2.0 is not a big leap forward. The white version is nowhere as nice as it likes, because the color is really off off white... :-(

On our way to Frisco

A couple of weeks ago we found out that Karen Mulvany, whom we met @ the Galapagos Islands while on our National Geographic Expedition, is voted to be 'Citizen of the year' of her hometown Lafayette (near San Francisco). While it has been a year or so since I was in SF it seemed a perfect excuse to fly over and celebrate the occasion with Karen and her friends and family. It should have been a surprise - but as everything else in this age of Wikileaks our coming somehow was revealed to Karen... Maybe for the better, otherwise she would have had such a shock that she probably would not have recovered. In the mean time Eddie and I made such a huge shopping list that the only thing we will do in SF is shop till we drop. (As it turns out that is one of my favorite things to do!). BA flew us comfortable in our beds.

Glenn Ligon

A great article in the New Yorker about Glenn Ligon by Peter Schjeldahl because of his upcoming exhibition at the Whitney.

Uncharted 3 - can't wait

But have to till November! :-(

Hmmm....

I am wondering what is written on his tummy...

Stille Omgang - Silent Procession

Every year on March 15th something strange happens in Amsterdam - a silent procession right through the red light district. You would expect it to be some kind of protest against prostitution or against the trading of women - but the truth of why the thousands of elegant dressed people are walking there is much more interesting: It has to do with the Miracle of Amsterdam back in 1345 on March 15th.
A man was dying in the Kalverstraat and called for a priest to give him the last rites. After he eat the holy bread he had to throw up and when his vomit was put into the fire - the holy bread hoovered above the fire - clearly an act of god! ;-)

Danny och Eric

Så där: Eric Saade har vunnit 2011 Melodifestivalen med "Popular" (och mycket fler krossat glas) Min favorit Dany Saucedo ("In the club) pussade honom live på TV:en. :-)
Eric ska representerar Sverige på Eurovision Song Contest i Tyskland.

Alberto Granado - motorcycle rider

Alberto Granado has died.  He rode together with Che Guevara, his revolutionary friend, through Latin America in the early 1950s with a motorcycle. Later this became the film, The Motorcycle Diaries. His trip is still inspiration for many riders (like me)

Happy birthday Ken!

Still young looking at 50 today's Ken birthday. And because Barbie is having an affair with surfer boy Blaine Ken can finally come out the closet (with his extensive wardrobe) and show his true colors. Sure he already did that before (with earring magic ken). I have a Ken but I am more an Action Man guy myself :-)

The Lion..uh... Tiger king?

This is a bookcase I love & want - make that: need!

Roligaste Svenska Filmer - 4: Patrik 1.5
