Films for the weekend: 2. X-Men First Class

How did it all start? Now we know because of this nice Sunday afternoon flick. But it is just a little bit to long I think, it could do with at least a half hour less of talking and extensive action scenes.. Nice role of Kevin Bacon.

films for the weekend: 1. The HangOver II

Sure it is the same formula, but what a formula it is :-) It's an other 2 hours of senseless humor with the guys. As usual the most fun comes with the end credits...

Time to go to the beach...

Australian HIV Campaign Reinstated

RipandRollAustraliax180 (QCHA) | Advocate.com
The  campaign for HIV prevention targeting gay men in Queensland has been reinstated following an online backlash against the company that removed the ads in response to complaints from an antigay Christian group. More than 25,000 joined a Facebook group to support the “Rip and Roll” campaign from the Queensland Association for Healthy Communities - hurray!

Really offensive - or not?

An HIV-prevention ad featuring a fully-clothed gay couple embracing with a condom has been removed from bus shelters in Brisbane, Australia following complaints from the Australian Christian Lobby...huh?

Heavy Medal?

The medal I got after the "Rock & Run" run was announced as a "heavy medal" medal - in fact it was a very cheapo plastic piece of rubbish - why did they do that?

Pierre & Gilles @ Christies Paris

Today is the long anticipated auction of Pierre & Gilles photographs/paintings @Christies Paris. For a mere €30.000 or so you can pick up an original artwork by the guys, so hurry!

Rock & Run in Amsterdam

I ran the Rock & Run Amsterdam today - it was a pure recreational event, without any time keeping - but it was fun to run freely around the corner over the canals between some very weird dressed other runners...

New Kids Turbo

I wasn't planning to watch this movie, but happened to stumble upon it, and I must admit: It was more fun then I thought it would be. I liked Rikkert (Wesley van Gaalen) most. His relationship with his Opel Manta is classic :-)

We are all living in the past - realtime

Interesting story in the New Yorker: What is the relation between the reality, our senses and our brain?
Don't our senses need time to digest what they see, hear, feel? Next there is some transportation time needed to our brain and finally our brain has to put all that stuff together and make some (real) sense out of it. To make things more interesting - different senses have different legacy times and you also have to deal with the difference in the speed of light vs. sound e.g.
So how do we have a sync feeling about things that happen around us? Isn't it so that we have to wait for the last feed to come in? And so: are we actually living in a world that is already microseconds away....

Wow! Maybe even some people have a different legacy time and are living in a different time all together - that explains a lot considering some people ;-))

The story of Bill Sanders - a gay frog as an iPad app

Author Connie van Gils  and illustrator Roel Seidell wrote this story about a gay frog whom liked to watch the boys from the water ballet more then girls :-)
Now a free download in the iTunes store for iphone/ipad in 5 languages - sweet!

RIO 3D

Take a standard animation story with your usual team of (voice) characters put a 3 D glazing on top and voila: a recipe for disaster. But wait a minute: RIO 3D is very likable, maybe it is the setting in RIO (it all is very accurate) and the music of Sergio Mendes - but this is great Sunday afternoon entertainment.  Actually I liked it so much that maybe I have to start playing angry birds RIO on the iPad as well.

Pirates IV: On Stranger Tides - can it get any stranger?

I watched POTC IV in IMAX 3D, but it didn't help: it's again way to long with confusing action scenes and no story. Luckily Sam Claflin (did he work out?) is in it though - so we have something to like :-))

New books for this weekend part III: De Maagd Marino

Yves Petry won the prestigious Libris literature prize 2011 with his novel "De Maagd Marino" about a guy who eats an other guy - with his consent... oops. Very loosely based on a real story it promises to be a great story. I bought the book, but somehow I don't seem able to start reading... yet.

New books for this weekend part II: HHhH

Laurent Binets' Himmlers Hirn heißt Heydrich is a curious book - part fiction, part biography. Laurent describes how you came to write this book and takes the reader on a journey into the story of the attack on Heydrich in Prague in 1942. It's clear that Laurant loves Prague and knows it very well (as I do) and he draws a very vivid picture of this magnificent town during WWII. His quest to find to truth about Heydrich and the attack is very addicting and it was very hard to lay down this book.

New books for this weekend part I: Mes illusions donnent sur la cour

Sacha Sperling wrote a novel with a well known story: teenagers who smoke joints, use drugs, drink to much and have sex - only this time the main character (Sacha) is only 14...
In a sort "Lary Clark" picture with vivid factual descriptions he describes his meeting with Augustin, his new found friend (and lover as we discover). A stunning debut of a guy who just turned 18 and a book which you have to read till it's finished.

Hmmm...

Cars II

Very nice "posters" for the new pixars CARS - would it be nice if the whole film was in this style?

Exporting Raymond

Everybody loves Raymond, at least that's what the creator of the show thought - untill he tried to export the show to Russia... Luckily he brought a documentory camera crew with him, with a hilarious result... :-)
