A day at sea and on the waterfront.

Château d'If (of The Count of Monte Christo fame)

In a cell at d'If

What is Marseille without its water? Right, so we spent a day at sea.

An other sunny day in Marseille

How did they get the sneakers here?

Marseille is turning out into a very pleasant surprise. Maybe it is the sunny weather - but the combination of history, sunny weather, good food and the mediterranean sea is unbeatable...

Marseille - a very pretty city in the south of France

Marseille doesn't have a great reputation; High crime numbers and the position of Le Pen make this second(!) city of France not very popular with tourists. Most visit for a couple of hours or stay at Aix De Provence. But being the European Cultural Capital of 2013 might change that (together with a whopping €450 million investment). So this week we are visiting La Douce France :-) First impression is great: it is an ancient city with roots going back to the Grecian and Roman times with lots of heritage. The center is also compact and human sized. (Oh: and the food is fab!)

Stream baby, stream!

After Spotify, Next Issue, Readly now finally Nexflix has arrived (in the Netherlands that is...)
TV was dead, VOD never took off - this is it!

Doc Martin is my doctor of choice

Thx to Karen & Tom for giving us the tip to start watching DocMartin. It is  a new sort of James Herriot - but then with a Mr Bean like, grumpy, autistic asperger main character. Doesn't sound funny? - well it is! Actually the main character is Port Isaac, a picture perfect little village in Cornwall. (So pretty that we added it to our bucket list).

Hmmm...

Kill your Darlings

Daniel Radcliffe stars as Beat Generation icon Allen Ginsberg in this new movie set during the poet's early years at Columbia University. He has an affair with Lucien Carr (Dane DeHaan) - which looks like pretty explicit...

A lost (and found) thank you note from The Big Gipper

Why I loathe Walt.

Watching the very last season of Breaking Bad I start to dislike Walt more by the minute. Normally you cannot help to like the leading character of a show e.g. Tony Soprano. But with Walt it is utterly impossible to see any good in this man. Manipulative, deceiving, lying, murdering; Walt is it all - did I mention ugly?
I do relate to Flynt, but his role is tiny, so that leaves me Hank as my main focus. In the latest episodes he too shows a dark side, but that seems only human to me. I would be acting probably the same if I was treated, shot and humiliated like Hank. (And if I had a wife like Marie... ;-) )
So I really really hope that Walt will die or will receive justice an other way and the end.

NokiSoft?

Well this is the end of Nokia. Pitty because in the last century this was one of my favorite companies. I still have a drawer full of old Nokia phones.
The Nokia 2110 e.g.  was the first to feature the now-famous Nokia ringtone after that the 3210. Not to forget the Nokia 6110 - my first phone with which you could phone for a week before to recharge. (Those were the days ;-) )
And naturally the (Matrix!) Nokia 7110 with the automated slider - cool.
The N90 - looked great and had a -for its time- great camera. So now I have the Lumia 920 - which is a great device and super OS. I miss some apps - and there lies the problem in the take-over of Microsoft. They are not very good in the "soft" part. So maybe we should call it Nokihard and not NokiSoft?
I give it a year and then probably return to iOS and the iPhone 6.

Just hanging around...

The day I became HUMAN

Human: Paul, Laurier, Renato & Frederik
Check out the amazing human app. Download it right now!

After almost a year of really hard en intense work the "Human Guys" launched their human app today. An app which encourage you to move/walk/ride at least 30 minutes every day.  It's a better nike fuel band, without the need of a band. Marijn, Renato and I started working of the idea back in 2011 and struggled with the concept. Things really started moving (no pun intended ;-) ) when Paul came aboard. He was working on his own fitness app idea at that time. After Marijn en me left the guys to it on their own - we saw what synergy their thinking could deliver and now: Human is live!

Benefits from E-books Settlement Fund...

I just got this mail:

Records indicate that you are eligible for a payment from Settlements reached by State Attorneys General and Class Plaintiffs with E-book publishers Holtzbrinck Publishers, LLC, (known as Macmillan) (“Macmillan”) and Penguin Group (USA) Inc. (“Penguin”). The Settlements resolve Plaintiffs’ claims against Macmillan and Penguin in antitrust lawsuits about the price of electronic books (“E-books”).

So I guess I am in for a iTunes store credit later this year :-)

Pretty nest

Amazing tern bird nest (shell island, baja mexico).

Are Chelsea boots the new UGGs?

Made fashionable by the Beatles and Patrick Macnee when he played John Steed, Chelsea boots are back: big time! You cannot pass a showstore and not see them in the windows. Actually they look pretty ok and with these elastic sides, they are also easy to slip on and off, which is especially handy when flying and you have to get out of your shoes at security. No wonder that I just ordered a (black) pair.

Hmmm...
