We had to get up very early this morning in order to get to the airport in time. Luckily it turned out that on Saturday morning the “Santiagoans” are still vast asleep so it took us no more then 15 minutes. Are spending a half hour in the wrong queue (international) we checked our baggage and boarded a completely sold out plane. LAN just bought brand new 767-300s and they are great: new chairs, better air conditioning and a state of the art entertainment system with more movies (70), CDs (300), TV series and games that I ever encountered. So the 5 hour flight passed quickly, although it was one of the bumpiest flight ever… ☺
The flight tracking system was fun to watch: just a straight line over to vast ocean to a tiny little point in nowhere: Easter Island.
The run way (build by NASA for Space Shuttle Pacific emergency landings) runs from one end of the island to the other…
Bill was waiting for us with a flower chain and his truck.
The sun was shining and the first thing we did was hop into our shorts and run to our first Easter Island Statues. Because of the time difference we turned to bed early so to be fresh tomorrow for our first excursion.
