Finally: Local Live in The Netherlands

Vrijthof by Google Earth
Vrijthof by Local Live

As I told you months ago. Microsoft Local Live is far superior then Google Earth. and we now have images from The Netherlands. Strange enough not the big cities yet... but you can see Groningen or Maastricht.

Bommel radio play

The NPS is airing a new radio play based on the cartoon character Olivier Bommel. After the success of the dramatization of the novel "Het Bureau"(The office) we have an other (almost) daily 15 minutes we can look forward to. You can also download the podcast of course...

Meanwhile somewhere in Holland

Pat's Table

Pat van der Wall Bake taught me all kinds of new culinary tricks yesterday. I was pleased with the result of my lemon pudding, baked "au bain-marie".
Did you know that Marie la Juive was the inventor of this Alchemy trick were the food is baked at a temperature that cannot rise higher then 100 degrees Celcius...

Meanwhile at the Funda HQ

The Art of Blending

This is the Philips HR2094 blending machine. I saw it today at The Bijenkorf for 99 euro. Luckily I have internet at home ;-)
So I bought it at Redcoon for a mere 69 euro. Actually I bought 3 because I found out the a seperate jar costs 59 euro...

Belly

Roman Trekel

Roman sang the part of Wolfram in the DNO production of Tannhäuser. The premiere was Friday night and the audience went berserk. That was also due to the fine conducting of Helmut Haenchen.

New portrait

This picture was taken for the book about the fastest growing tech companies of The Netherlands.

Hmmm

Save the Floppy Disk

Strange: even in the new version of Office 2007 the icon for saving a document, sheet or presentation is a ... floppy disk! wait a minute: who still knows what a floppy disk is? couldn't they better use a 1) USB stick icon, 2) Hard disk icon 3) completely new icon ?
I guess Thijs is right when he suggested that our mutual friend Tjeerd from Microsoft probably did a lot of consumer research and found out that this is what consumers expect it to be.

The WOW! is lost

The New York Times today published this picture of senior Microsoft management celebrating the launch of Vista. It doesn't look like they have fun os that there is a lot of WOW...
I better wait for vista till my new computer (read in three years).

Interview to the founder of Funda.nl :-)

Jesus Encinar, the founder and CEO of the Spanish funda: Idealista.com wrote about me in his blog. Because the original text is in Spanish I asked Google to translate it for you guys: This what they made of it...

Joosten marks is without a doubt one of the most likable and peculiar types of which we dedicated ourselves to the world of the real estate vestibules in Europe. He is the founder of Cover, the main real estate vestibule in Holland and one of the 10 pages more seeing in his country.

In this video you can see an interview of 3 minutes in English published yesterday in youtube responds to questions that do people to him of Trulia on the segment of the classified ones online, its form to receive, etc.
In the video it is not appraised but in shoulders it has enormous tattoos, the day that we knew ourselves in Spain was warm and wore a t-shirt of braces. So that soon they say that I am rare:)

Expensive joke

At the art exhibition at the Naarder Church this weekend, Dolf was showing a painting by the late HRH Prince Bernard of the Netherlands. It was rubbish actually but expensive: he sold it for
€ 11.000...

Maup looking sad

Maup is a apprentice at Corus. he was featured in a NRC newspaper article. I keep on wondering what's wrong, why is he looking so sad? I guess because of the horrific overall he has to wear. LOL...

Tjeerd Hoek

Remember Tjeerd? Marijn, Thijs and I met him at the Microsoft headquarters in Seattle when we were there couple of years ago. He was working with a staff of 35 people on the design of Vista (AKA Longhorn). He must be happy that after all those years Vista hit the market this weeks.

Think about it

It is a plague: more and more (bronze) statutes are being stolen just for the value of the metal.
The statue in front of the NVM offices in Nieuwegein (a copper ostrich egg) was stolen a couple of weeks ago and this Rodin was nicked from an Art museum in Laren.

Funda under attack!

In the latest issue of marketing tribune (A Elsevier Reed publication) the cover story is about Funda. It states that funda is under attack from the NVM and that the NVM like a pitbull terrier tries to slow funda down and to stop her in advancing.
On the picture we are the Doberman I think. I wonder who the sad dog left in front is: the consumer? :-)

The End of Blue Ray

Has Sony gone mad? Prominent adult movie producer Digital Playground (site) says it is forced to use HD DVD instead of Blu-ray, because Sony does not allow porn movies to be released on Blu-ray. I cannot imagine any guy buying a blue ray DVD player now that he knows that he cannot his favorite movies on such a device...
History repeats it self. Sony should know better.

Something like this would do...

Funday

In the new "pakhuis" media center we had our yearly FUNDAy with everyone from funda. We were talking about the budget 2007, the future and the brand. Afterwards we had dinner at Fifteen, the local version of Jamie Olivier's restaurant.

Protein

I started this week with anew diet: Protein Power. The diet is based on the assumption that men never used Carbs only until the last 100 years or so. So we have to leave out as much carbs as possible (sounds familiar...) The nice thing is that you can eat as much as you like without the blown up feeling and that I have lost 2 kilos already. Probably that is mostly water. The problem is of course that I don't want to lose weight: I want to GAIN weight. Let's see how the situation is a couple of weeks into this diet.

Ice skating

In search of higher ratings Dutch television is getting completely bonkers. Both RTL and SBS have scheduled exactly the same show (ice skating with (B) Stars) at the same time slot of Fridays. SBS is winning in ratings but RTL has a secret weapon: He is called Joel Mans, or should I say Brad Patton. This second rated holiday on ice skater had an other career on the site as a gay porn star. So we do not have to be sorry for him when he falls on his bum during skating, because that bum is used to some serious pounding already... :-)

Nokia strikes back

The Nokia Aeon concept phone shows us that Nokia -as Apple- is thinking of touch screens and large displays. I guess our cell phone will change revolutionary in the coming two years.

Barack for president!

watch the video!

New Year Party

We had a virtual New Year's party this afternoon at our own chalet in Second Life. More then 100 "people"showed up and we danced, drank and talked. Here you see me with Rain Ruska (aka Marijn)

Muscles

T-shirt

Playing Cowboys...

Calender

The youth of the Berlin area of Marzahn-Hellerdorf want to promote their living area. They thought a nude calender would do the trick. If only we weren't so distracted from the lovely mill by something else... ;-)

cannot wait!

Best Picture

The Dutch photographer Laurens Aaij has won best (domestic news) picture with his image of the horses that were stuck last year on a piece of land in Marum. The lighting and composition is excellent. I wouldn't know what to enhance with Photoshop - or could it be that it is already photoshoped? (maybe the white horse was brown to begin with...)

Google browser sync

Although I was moaning about google's gmail not being able to have two windows at the same time. The guys of google are helping me to sync between home and work in an other way: the Google browser sync option in firefox. It works brilliantly and all of my search, cookies and bookmarks are always in sync.
As with all services of Google it is still in BETA. (everything seems to be BETA nowadays, but that's an other story)

Gmail Lockdown

My Gmail account got locked down a couple of times in the past week. The reason given provided no clue as to what I might be guilty of. Since I use Gmail more and more as my primary account, getting it locked down is not a nice thing, to say the least... I wrote to the e-mail address given asking for the reasons. As usual I got the standard reply which asked me to write back if anything in a list of no-no’s was applicable to me. :-(
It looks like Gmail will lock your account if it is accessed at the same time from two different places. The problem is that I access Gmail from work and home, and as I reboot the computer at work only once a month at best and at home maybe ones a year, Gmail is always open.
But, the problem I feel is with Gmail itself. It automatically refreshes every two minutes. Users should atleast have the option to switch the two minute page refresh off.
The message that was displayed when the account was locked said upto 24 hours, but it was unlocked within a few minutes.

Google image labeler

Google has a new game (and a new beta service...) It is called Google image labeler and what it does is to let you tag manually images they have found on the internet. So while playing this game, their database is getting richer and richer. :-)
You play with at random somebody else online. If your tag and the other persons tag match, you get points.
As you can imagine I labeled the pictures above (courtesy from my friends from the naked rugby league) with the tags, beach, sea, tattoo and.. uh.. ;-)

Wallendorf

The Wallendorf meissen factory is centuries old but still they are up to date. They just introduces special figurines fro gay marriages...
I have not find a place (online) where you can buy them though.

happy planet index

What makes you happy? A question asked by people around the world. There is a way to find out by visiting the happy planet index website and do the test. I seem to be very happy (maybe even gay) :-)

Join the Army!

I know nothing: I am from Barcelona!

An other old series we are watching is Fawlty Towers and although we have seen every episode hundreds of times, it is still very funny.

Vito of the Sopranos

The first part of the sixth season of the Sopranos is on DVD and Eddie and me needed one and a half days to watch all 12 episodes...
Vito revealed himself in the fifth season to have some proclivities of the not-so-wise-guy sort. On a construction job, Meadow's boyfriend Finn walked on him performing oral sex on a security guard -- of the male persuasion. Now he is out of the closet and finds love. Consequently he is murdered of course because this is still mafia :-)
Never the less: we had some nice scenes of two guys falling in love in a series that usually is showing us two guys killing each other.

Trent Vanegas

One of the more funnier blogs I follow (and one of the most successfull ones is Trent Vanegas blog: Blogebrity. Check it out.

Eli Asser

I am very happy that after 30 years the comedy series 'T schaep met de vijf Pooten" is remade. It used to be one of my favorite series and I think that the old script has stand the test of time. The only difference is that I now watch the series via Internet at the time when it suits me...

New Year's Eve

We celebrated New Year's Eve with my mother and brother (and his girl friend) in Koekange way out in Drenthe (in the east of The Netherlands). We expected a quiet evening but were in fact treated by the local farmers at the most and loudest bangs in my life :-)
