When the Germans invaded Norway in the spring of 1940 (to protect its neutrality...) they "parked" their Atlantic fleet in the fjords near Alta and Narvik. The uber destroyer Tirpitz was hiding here to and untouchable. It took a couple of years and special bombs to destroy it. The Warmuseum in Narvik has a nice exhibition about the German invation in Narvik, the counter attack by the English and French in june 1940 and about the Tirpltz. Strangely enough it is called the Red Cross War museum... ?!
