Palma de Mallorca

Palma is a bussy and historic city. The Cathedral was closed for the rest of the day when we arrived and we had to get used to the strange day rhythm of the Spanish. It seems that they only sleep during the day and prefer to eat and party while the rest of us sleep. The solution is -as often is the case- simple: why don't the Spanish turn back the clock let's say an hour or 3. So they can enjoy breakfast at 7 (=10), lunch at noon (=3 pm) and dinner at 6 (=9 pm) like the civilized world...
I guess we're stuck with it for the moment and have no real alternative then to adjust (a little) to their way of "life" ... :-)
Anyway I had fun shopping around  and seeing the sites. It turns out that Mallorca is actually owned by Germany and that half of the German population is living here. (The new West -or should we say South? - Germany one could argue)
With the proceeds of the market I cooked a ratatouille or as they say here pisto manchego

Fishy eyes

Just before we left we bought an amazing fish eye lens from tamron. The 11-18 mm. It really corrects the angels and has a clear view. At digitalstreet.nl is was  a whopping €200 (30%) cheaper then at your usual photo camera store.
We especially bought it to bring home sweeping landscapes from easter island in a couple of weeks. But it nice to take it on a test spin in Mallorca.

On our way!

It was to be the busiest day on Schiphol airport ever. Al the reason to be there early. Fortunately Schiphol had anticipated perfectly and everything went very smooth. Only setback: a hour delay because of late arrival of the plane (where did we heard that before...?). A short flight brought us to Palma an a short drive after that to our house: Cta del Finca near Santayi.

While everyone else in Amsterdam is preparing for a scorching Queensday next Monday, Eddie and I are packing our raingear. We will visit Mallorca and the predictions just suck....

BA being very childish

According to the BBC News, British Airways has reportedly removed a shot of Virgin Atlantic boss Sir Richard Branson from the in-flight version of Casino Royale.

Keen-eyed James Bond fans could spot Branson being checked at an
airport security scanner in the sequence where Daniel Craig’s 007
pursues Carlos, played by Claudio Santamaria, during the Miami chase.
As a result of this new edit, his face has now been removed from the
film.

In addition to the above edit, British Airways also removed a shot
of the tail fin of a Virgin plane that was in the film. ‘We do reserve
the right to edit films, and many films are edited in some way on
board,’ said a spokesman....

The day that Lisa would perform

Today was an important day for all the students of the Toverfuit Ballet school from Amsterdam: the yearly theater performance in front of family and friends. Lisa (4 years old) was scheduled to play as well - she was casted as a creature from Mars. But helas as happens often with Ballerina's: she got stage fright at the last minute and opted out.
So let's hope next year she will shine on stage as the next big Ballet Diva.
