The strange case of the disappearing women

In the Saudi Arabian version of the new IKEA catalog all the women are erased. It is actually a very well Photoshop exercise - but rather strange to get rid of half the population like that...

The CEO as Performer

Tim Cook
Thorsten Heinz
Stephen Elop
Steve Ballmer

Since Steve Jobs every (tech)CEO has to introduce his new gadgets with a show and with him- or herself as the leading actor. As we all know Steve did a amazing job. (very well choreographed and rehearsed and directed by some of the best directors)
The book “The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs” is a must read when ever you want to present for a large audience.

Unfortunately not every CEO has read this book. The latest introductions were prove of the fact that performing is something else then being a good CEO. Tim Cook (Apple) just seems to use the old Steve Jobs scripts and clothes, but without the same passion and charisma. Stephen Elop (Nokia) needs definitely some fashion advise but isn’t all that bad as a presenter. Steve Ballmer (Microsoft) is so happy with himself that he forgets his audience and sometimes just act stupid.
Thorsten Heinz (RIM) is dressed terribly (tuck in your belly Thorsten…) and very, very boring – he keeps on going on about details and other not important stuff. He is probably the worst of the current CEO’s not so bad as  Carly Fiorina (former CEO HP) was a couple of years ago…

By the way if you look at the registration of the various speeches you will find huge quality differences in direction, camera standpoints, lighting and setting. Again Apple is doing by far the best job here.

If all the CEO’s were like Bill Clinton I am sure that consumers would buy their stuff more and that the economic crisis would be gone in a heartbeat.

The day I stopped messing with potatoes

As almost everyone I used to mash my mashed potatoes until today that is because now I am pressing them with a Rösle potato ricer. The result is a complete different experience: fluffy creamy like potato mousse :-) My recipe: take special mashed potato sort (like Ceasar), steam them for 10 minutes, press, add hot milk, dash of salt & pepper, sharp mustard, some butter and some fresh herbs (like coriander or parsley).

The day I ran the Dam-2-Dam

Here with Tomas just for the start. The weather was great and we ran with more then 50.000 people from Amsterdam to Zaandam. While running you almost feel like a real athlete because along the way hundreds of people are standing, singing and dancing to encourage you - it is actually not a run at all - it is a party :-)
