We are in the ancient town of Alcudia in yet an other design hotel: Cas Ferrer which consists only of 6 rooms and is run by Tolo and his wife Stephanie. From here we went to the caves of Drachs.

One of (the few still operating) monasteries here in the neighborhood is the one in Lluc. Surrounded by huge mountains it used to be almost impossible to reach. Inside a ancient old Madona statue is the reason for pilgrims from around the world to visit this place.

A journey full of hair pins

02:23 mareku 0 Comments

We drove along the northern coast of Mallorca from Soller al the way to Cap Fermentor. This must be one of the nicest views in the world. Deep green/blue clear water, high rising mountains, white beaches with little century old villages and monasteries.  The roads are small and consists almost only of hair pin curves. It is also heaven on earth for cyclists and we encountered hundreds of them.

GAY LORD QUITS BP

BP boss Lord Browne was forced to quit yesterday after lying about a gay affair with a lover less than half his age.

Lord
Browne, 59 - who worked for the oil giant for 41 years and was due to
retire in just two months - misses out on a £15million pay-off.

He
resigned after he lied to a court about how he met his lover of four
years, Jeff Chevalier, 27. Lord Browne was trying to stop details of
his affair being made public.

Lord Browne, who split up
with Chevalier last year, resigned from oil giant BP after losing a
legal fight to stop his ex-lover telling of their life together. He had
previously won an injunction banning a newspaper from printing the
embarrassing kiss and tell revelations.

But
it was lifted yesterday after the millionaire admitted he had lied to
the High Court about how he met Chevalier. Lord Browne said they first
met in London's Battersea Park when in fact they made contact through a
gay website.

He was named Britain's most admired business leader from 1999 to 2002.
He was one of the first company directors to be paid more than
£1million a year. Tony Blair knighted him in 2001 and his relationship
with No10 grew so close the firm was dubbed Blair Petroleum. But now that is all over and BP for him will always stand for Butt Pain... :-)

La sombra del viento

After just anybody read it I thought I couldn't be the only one left not reading it so I brought The shadow in the wind from Carlos Ruiz Zafon with me to Mallorca. It is a nice story very well written with a nice character set and sometimes a suspense storyline. I have to be very careful not to read these kind of books all at once so I have put myself on a ration of not more then 150 pages a day. The story plays in Barcelona which I know a little and the Spanish environment helps to feel emerged in the story.

An other day in Soller

Soller is famous because of its oranges and lemons and it was because of this good that Soller was connected with Palma by train and with Port the Soller by tram. They still are fully functional. Although both can be reached by auto tunnels as well. We went to the old villa of Arch duke Hohenzolleren in the neighborhood and to the monastery of Valldemossa. We had dinner at the port and felt well at home at the Aimia once more.

Port de Soller again...

After breakfast we went to Palma to see the wonderful interior of The Catherdral. We also had a look at the Gaudi house and the historic district. In the immense Carrefour we had to shop for a battery adapter for our cannon 300D because I forgot mine at home...

Then via a mountain road to Soller and from there to Port the Soller. I made a reservation in Hotel Aimia, in which I stayed before with funda and of which I have very fond and good memories. It turned out even better with the suite on the top floor and the sun breaking through.

Minisodes anyone?

10:55 mareku 0 Comments

The guys at Sony came up with a novel idea: Minisodes (=mini episodes) of classic television series like Charlies Angels. In the ’70s , Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Jaclyn Smith took
a half-hour to solve a crime. Now, in“minisodes,” they do it in
3 minutes. That’s the length Sony has shrunk episodes down to in order to create
what the
company hopes is an appealing new business in retooling old
shows for a new era of entertainment. As Steve Mosko, the president of Sony Television, described it, “So in
‘Charlie Angels,’ they have a meeting, Charlie’s on the intercom
telling them what the assignment is, there’s a couple of fights, and
then a chase, and they catch the bad guy. Then they’re back home
wrapping it up.”
The plan gained traction when Sony executives saw the
“Seven-Minute Sopranos,” a condensation of the 77-hour HBO series that
was posted on YouTube last March.
I guess the plot of the Charlies Angels is so thin if Sony wants they can produce 30" episodes...
Let's wait for the my dream: The Ring of Wagner in 10 minutes (sorry Eddie)
