The day my music went global...

Starting today everyone in the world can listen (and buy) my music :-)
My latest album "Heartbeat" is available now on Deezer, iTunes and Spotify among others...

Robin Williams

15:56 mareku 0 Comments

Because we had to say goodbye to Robin Williams to soon I thought it was a good idea to rewatch some movies of him. Sure "Death Poet Society" is probably the best - but on an other level "The Birdcage" is quite good too. I thought he did a good job to match or even surpass Ugo Tognazzi in the original "La cage aux Folles" - which was hard to do, because Ugo was excellent.  Sad that so many actors/performers decide to quit - either through drugs or otherwise. It shows how hard performing really is...

Lauren Bacall - the original super diva

15:28 mareku 0 Comments

I was sorry to hear that Lauren Bacall died. She was such a super star - with an unforgettable expression. I liked almost all of her movies but my favorites are:
How to Marry a Millionaire
Key Largo
Designing Woman
Murder on the Orient Express
The Mirror Has Two Faces
Thanks Lauren for all the wonderful moments.

Head up display helmets: not a good idea

15:37 mareku 0 Comments

Is it just me or don't I see the full picture here? I don't like the idea of Head up display helmets like proposed by Skully. It is way to much distraction while riding to see stuff in your display, follow your GPS and to see what's behind you. The aerodynamics are also not ideal if I look at the prototype.
And is the helmet safe? or even comfortable? I let this one pass.

Running in the rain

15:48 mareku 0 Comments

I am probably the only guy in The Netherlands whom really likes the rain which is now pouring down. But I have to run a few races in a couple of weeks and with a scorching sun, training is hard. So with this temperature and a (light!) rain - my running scheme is so much better!

Migrating to Wordpress

15:46 mareku 0 Comments

Because our new dokterdokter.nl is being build in wordpress I had the chance to revisit this CMS. And in its latest version it's pretty impressive. I always found it to much geeky for my taste - hence I publish on blogger. But this latest version is very userfriendly and offers amazing possibilities. So I am starting a little project to see if I migrate to WP. Keep you posted...

Mike's birthday

13:20 mareku 0 Comments

I had been a while since I had dinner in restaurant "Le Garage" so it was an excellent idea of No to take us there for Mike's birthday. I had a great evening with fun company and tasty food.

Boyhood - must see

13:16 mareku 0 Comments

Sure it is fun to see Ellar Coltrane grow up - but just as intriguing is it to see the other actors mature - especially Ethan Hawke which portraits a dad who (although divorced) is a sort of dad every guy would like to have.
Ellar reminds me of River Phoenix whom I liked and admired - let's hope he stays on track.

My favorite pic from the 2014 National Geographic Traveler Photo Contest

All the winners are great - but this Český Krumlov picture gave me sweet old memories about this amazing village in the south of the Czech Republic (Bohemia)

L'Onde Septimus

Finally got time to buy and read the latest Blake & Mortimer: The Septimus Wave. Not a great album - but good enough for a sunday afternoon.

Thanks Dick Bruna!

19:09 mareku 0 Comments

Today Dick Bruna announced that he stopped drawing: that is a huge loss for all the Miffy fans - luckily Bruna has made a template that will continue for centuries to come... So can everyone after us always enjoy his unique style.

Back to nokia?

13:33 mareku 0 Comments

Sure I would like to have to new (announced) Nexus 6 - but in the meantime it would be nice to take a look at windows phone 8.1. But until now I had no luck in updating my Lumia 920 - so I stick to the Nexus 5 for the moment.

Eli Lieb

13:28 mareku 0 Comments

Last year Eli surprised us with his song "Young Love" Now his released a new single: Zeppelin” which is a sort of Looking music/video. The production quality of this track is way better - at Eli could do even better I think - so lets wait what he will do next.

New scooter?

13:18 mareku 0 Comments

After our unfortunately scooter accident the insurance company informed me that my Peugeot is a total loss. So I have to start thinking about a new scooter. Maybe this new Vespa Sprint (in yellow!) would be a good choice?

Meanwhile back in Snizhne

16:58 mareku 0 Comments

I think we have to thank and think of the local people at the MH17 crash site.  They didn't want war -certainly didn't want thugs in their back yard. The miners were caught up in a major international crisis while trying to remove bodies without any expertise, experience  and equipment. Respect.

Scum of the earth - and beyond

14:08 mareku 0 Comments

This is the kind of scum that murdered the 298 people on board of MH17. If you would try to imagine horrible trash you would even come close with how horrific these guys are in reality. Look at the guy at the right - he actually seems to enjoy himself with a stolen toy of one of the victims.

Hot!

Green of London

Our stack of green bergamot tea was almost gone - without knowing how to survive - but luckily Eddie ordered a new fresh supply at Palais de Thé. This is the best tea ever. Period.

Watching monkeys

14:24 mareku 0 Comments

In anticipation of "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" we re-watched "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" - I forgot many details and it is still a great movie. The new 3D sequel should be even more visually intriguing. It is funny to see Andy Serkis shining through the motion capture digital wizardry.

Kindle Unlimited - not yet.

14:32 mareku 0 Comments

Not sure yet wether to join the new Kindle Unlimited services of Amazon. While it is surely the way we read books in the future - I don't know if it will add something new to the services I have already (like Readly) The books available do not impress me - but maybe that will grow (just like Netflix did). What I do like is the Audible collection and the Whispersync integration - where you can switch between reading and listening to your Kindle books. But not enough for now I guess...

Welcome to the club Ian :-)

Bon Dieu with Noom Diawara

13:57 mareku 0 Comments

I had finally the time to go and watch "Bon Dieu" (Good God) - a funny French movie about all our prepossessed views about race and origin - I especially liked Noom Diawara (second on the right) who's new movie "Amour sur place ou à emporter" seems like a nice one.

Olaf Hussein - the new Dutch Denim Superstar

13:54 mareku 0 Comments

During the latest Amsterdam Fashion Week I really liked the spring 2015 collection of Olaf Hussein a pity that I cannot buy it yet.

Kelsey is the Boss

13:48 mareku 0 Comments

Since a couple of days (thx Netflix!) I am hooked to Boss - the political triller Tv series with Kelsey Grammer, whom I knew only from Cheers and Frasier. It is a pity that the series didn't do so well in the States (wrong channel?) and that's why we only have 18 episodes - but this is House of Cards kind of stuff and The Emmy for best Drama actor for Kelsey was very justified.

Flies anyone?

14:43 mareku 0 Comments

Well trying to eat more proteins and les carbs made me come across this device from Katharina Unger: Farm 432. It is an incubator  that continually breeds and collects fly larva as a renewable protein source for less squeamish diners... Hmmm back to a roll with Nutella?

Eat more fat if you don't want to be FAT

14:20 mareku 0 Comments

Since a couple of weeks Eddie and I stopped with eating bread. After reading "Wheat Belly" by William Davis at after a bet with JoJo I just gave it a try. And with amazing success I must admit. My belly is (even) more slimmer and my fat% is way down. In Time Magazine an article about ending the war of Fat  made the comparison between the cholesterol scare back in the 90's and the fat scare now. Could it be that our belly fat is something else than the fat we consume? Well: it is cheese time for me now.

Why I watch football...

Not Nigel - but cute anyway
Nigel

No - just kidding: I am NOT watching any game at the WC2014. But this year's World Cup is set to be the most heavily inked of all time, but which footballer has the best tattoos? It must be our own Nigel De Jong. Unfortunately we will not see him in action any longer this tournament :-(
