Is portrait the new landscape?

In the beginning photography produced landscape images.
We had  3*4 negatives and we took pictures mainly of holidays and special occasions - it was way to expensive for everyday use. And we put those pictures in a nice photo album. Most of the pictures were of landscapes and situations, so in "landscape mode"
Later we got landscape computer screen because of work orientated applications as spreadsheets and landscape television screens.
Most photo cameras are also easiest to use in landscape mode - so no wonder people take more landscape pictures then portrait ones.

With the Rollei and Hasselbladt square pictures came into fashion in the 1930s.

Mobile  phone pictures first were landscape - then suddenly there was a revival of square ( e.g. instagram and hipstamatic)
And now because of Path and FB mobile and the fact we shoot more people then ever (instead of landscapes) people tend to shoot more and more in portrait mode.
Look at our FB time lines - the whole design of it will only enhance portrait mode

The first portrait shot videos are getting published and YouTube will have to adjust its lay-out soon I guess to avoid those black bars on the side...
And think of what will happen to the place of the shutter button of The iPhone?
And what will happen to our landscape oriented iMac screens? Do we get portrait screens - as we already see at airports? - will we see The return of The portrait computer screens as in the Wang word processing days?

And... ultimately... Will we have a portrait TV screen?

Robin Gibb and his titanic

Robin Gibb has composed a "classical" requiem about the titanic disaster. The premiere will be on April 15 this year (it'll have been 100 years since the Titanic sank) You can listen to one of the numbers (Christmas Day) here and  hear that composing classical music is something else then a nice pop song (as Paul McCartney already knows...) I wonder whether Eros Ramazzotti will now compose "The Costa Symphony..."

While waiting for the new Downton Abbey series to arrive why not watch the "new" Upstairs Downstairs from the BBC - 2010? Based on the ITV series of the '70s it could be fun and the fact that the BBC will start series II end of February almost makes it s must see right now...
