Is it better to RUN or not to RUN

Hmmm... I found this map of the air quality of Amsterdam Centre. (Green = OK,  purple = very Bad.) It turns out that on my runs (to the west part of Amsterdam) I have to cross some pretty nasty areas...
Maybe I just have to run faster?

Marque Marcos?

OK - it is official, Eddie has counted them all and I reached a 100 pairs of sneakers... :-)
The latest ones I couldn't resist are Nike Air Classic BW all white.

An Englishman in New York - Revisited

Last night I saw a DVD which I had bought months ago, but didn't bother to watch - how wrong I was... It was "An Englishman in New York" starring John Hurt as Quintin Crisp. Quintin (born as Dennis) became world famous in 1975 when his autobiography as a nude male model The Naked Civil Servant was broadcast on British and U.S. television (with  John Hurt as Crisp). Quintin moved to New York and was the new Oscar Wilde, witty, sharp and honest. Preforming in one-man shows and on TV. Until he caused controversy and confusion in the homosexual community by jokingly calling AIDS "a fad" - after that he was despised. The movie shows the last 20 years or so of Crisp - He was already in his 70's when he moved to NY... A great performance from John Hurt and it made me want to see "The Naked Civil Servant" once again. O, and yes you guessed it right: Stings' song is about Crisp :-)

running while it's raining

These rainy days it's challenging to keep running - not just because my shoes are soaked (do Nike make Goretex running shoes?) but because of the hard winds - which are really not very nice... ;-(

The Stranger's Child - the new Hollinghurst

Alan Hollinghurst's elegant and erudite novel about the life and legacy of a gay war poet is his first after the brilliant The Line Of Beauty. Cannot wait for Amazon to deliver the book and start reading...

Hmmm...

The new issue of Coitus

The day Wesley got his bikers driving license

I don't know how he did it - but its for real: Wesley got his motorcycle driving license!. Time to celebrate and hand over the keys of my Z1000 for a quick spin round the block.

Metronome - a great tour through the history of Paris

A really nice book about the history of Paris which let you see Paris through the "eyes" of the Metro Stations. Now also in an (French) illustrated version. It has all kinds of great walking routes, which let's you relive the past. I cannot wait to go back to Paris and wander around with this book.

Back home

I am back home and was happy to see that all the guys were (still) waiting for me...

Mat i Uppsala - enkel

What is the plus of Google+? Why would anybody switch from Facebook to this platform? Google+ is a little bit of twitter, a bit tumblr, digg and a (lot) of Facebook. Even the so hyped "circles" is a variation of the Facebook groups, that nobody uses, though nicely animated. The idea of the introduction of circles, sparks, hangouts and huddle all at once - makes its rather complicated and confusion. The lack of facebook, blogger and comprehensive twitter integration is just plain stupid...
But ok it's another Google Beta project, so who knows what's still to come / improved... But then again we already had Google disasters like Orku, Buzz and Wave. It doesn't help that it is by invitation only - which makes it no real alternative for Facebook yet. I think that the Google invitation strategy is nice when you have an open system like Gmail and such, but not for a walled concept as plus is. There are too few people to interact with.
Also for businesses no Google plus pages - so how can they interact with their fans?
For now I will be very reluctant to add Google plus content and if a lot of people are just as reluctant it will be Google Zero...
PS: Couldn't resist to make a Circle of Jerks :-)

New York Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage

Isn't it funny that it was just two years ago that a bill to legalize gay marriage was defeated in New York's then Democrat-controlled legislature and now with a GOP senate four Republicans joined all but one of the state's Democrats to pass the bill in Albany 33 to 29...
So it took  a while, but mainly thanks to the rallying of Andrew Cuomo it finally came through.

Nokia N9 - beautiful phone, but useless

It looks really pretty - but running MeeGo makes it uterly useless...

My Ex-Gay Friend

He's not looking happy/gay now at all...more bitter

In the good gay old time... :-) (Mikey on the left)
A very well written piece by Benoit Denizet-Lewis today in the NYT Magazine.
It's about his old Michael Glatze you used to be an activist at XY magazine, used to be his friend and...uh?!..USED to be gay.
In a country where 92% of the people say they believe in god it's no wonder that there is still debate about gay people - which is very hard to believe when living in Amsterdam. Anyway Michael completely lost it and is now living in a bible school in (Broke Back Mountain) Wyoming... Poor guy. I hope he will return quickly to the happy and cute(!) guy he used to be.
PS: very interesting comments on this piece too.

those were the days... ;-)

16k - wow! (by the way: now also as an app)

The return of the (killer)apps

Not sure what is going on but slowly all kinds of apps are creeping back into my life. I thought that I had everything "browserized" - but the contary seems to be the truth...
There are some pretty neat apps out there for the mac and I now have a couple of them running permanently (@space 2). These apps give a far better user experience and look beautiful. Also they remind you of your familiar iphone/ipad apps - so you are already used to them.
These I use most: sparrow (mail), reeder (rss reader), twitter (uh... twitter) and evernote (notes).
With launchpad in Lion I think a whole new wave of apps will come to us - is this the end of the browser then? (and of Google?)
