My first tweetnotebook

A Cool present from Marijn: a notebook with all my tweets from last year in it!

Autoblog brainstorm

We had a nice brainstorm session with our friend from Autoblog on the beach of Bloemendaal. Although the weather was very excellent - we unfortunately did not had any time to go for a stroll along the sea shore... Maybe next time.

Simon Reeves is back!

This time with an awesome new series on BBC TWO in which he circumnavigates the globe along the Tropic of Cancer.

Böcker i färgordning?

The Roman Catholic didn't hide anything - they made windows out of it...

The Roman Church & the pope are really getting in trouble now that they keep on denying that on a large scale abuse was going on (or is it: still going on) in the name of that very same church. How hypocrite can you be? Well I guess with windows like this - we should have know earlier that something was happening...

Hi Sailors!

48 hours and counting...

Wait, oh yes wait a minute mister postman
Wait, wait mister postman

Mister postman look and see
If there's a iPad in your bag for me
I been waiting such a long time
Since I ordered one in the States through a friend of mine...

No this is no april's fool post: Equallywed is a website for same sex marriages.

A brand new website just went public: Equallywed with tips / facts / trends for same sex marriages. Typical American I guess: for some people it is all about business...

what's your gender: neutral?!

Norrie May-Welby  became the first person in the world to be classified as genderless after officials in New South Wales, Australia, altered May-Welby's birth certificate to specify the neutral gender. What's next? Gender: None?

It's official: I like masculine guys...

The Face research organization wants to know how we look at people and what we appreciate in certain faces more then in others. There are all kinds of (funny) test your can do on their website so try it out!
I myself found out that I like masculine guys more then feminine LOL :-)

Improved ME

After I saw some Julian Opies in London a couple of weeks ago, I thought that a little update of my own avatar was due: So here it is. I made 2 versions with a little preference for the top one.

The day I became a certified Apple iPhone Developer

I have so many ideas for iPhone / iPad apps that there are not enough people to build them - so I thought: "Why not make them myself?" So I watched a couple of tutorials, actually bought a book (!) and joined the Apple developer community. With the new SDK 3.2 beta I am now in the process of building my very first app.

The final countdown

The iPads are shipped - so with only a couple of days to go we have to make sure everything is ready for our new baby... So I was very pleased when I got this very nice hardgraft iPad sleeve from Marijn.

Ever decreasing circles

I really am a fan of Richard Briers. Ever since "The Good Life" his unique humor makes me laugh out loud.  Now with the complete DVD collection of "Ever decreasing circles" from the late 1980's he is doing it again. In it he plays Martin Bryce who lives in a quiet suburban close with his wife Anne (Penelope Wilton). He like organising everyone and runs umpteen different societies. Paul Ryman (Peter Egan) his neighbour, is everything Martin is not – adventurous, laissez-faire, flippant, witty, handsome and charming. Also hilarious are Howard and Hilda (Stanley Lebor and Geraldine Newman), neighbours of Martin's who share some of his obsessiveness while having plenty of quirks of their own (such as always wearing "his and hers" matching outfits)...

Spring has arrived - and now I cannot see clearly anymore...

During the dark (cold!) days of winter you really don't notice that the visor of your helmet is actually full of scratches. With the first rays of sun it became clear that I had to change to a new pair. So I did and the world it looking so much better now!
My new Z1000 is getting rave reviews all around the globe. Ultimate Motorcycling, MotoMagazine, Motociclismo etc. They all agree: this is the ultimate naked bike... :-)

Hero of the day: Nancy Pelosi

OK Barack came up with the idea - but it was Nancy who realized it. She relentlessly chased her fellow democrats and tried to keep of the jumpy frogs into the bucket. And it worked!
See a nice time line of health care politics in the NYT here.

Barack did what he does best and had a nice speech to celebrate:
“In the end what this day represents is another stone firmly laid in the foundation of the American dream,” the president said. “Tonight, we answered the call of history as so many generations of Americans have before us. When faced with crisis, we did not shrink from our challenges. We overcame them. We did not avoid our responsibilities, we embraced it. We did not fear our future, we shaped it.”

Blogger template editor

Blogger just released a new feature with which you can change the blog template - so I did... :-)

John Hannah as Spartacus

I only knew John as a skinny guy from "Four Weddings and a funeral" or "The Mummie" So what happened? Who is his Personal Trainer For God Sake...

Watch this amazing iPad VIV magazine

VIV magazine show how they will use the iPad for the coming issues. Don't forget to watch the making of. After the first previews of Sports Illustrated, Wired and Penguin - this goes much much further.

What I saw at the European Fine Art Fair in Maastricht 2010

This years fair was not full of surprises of exciting great pieces. But there were some nice things to see. Hamiltons had a collection of Irving Penn photo's for his small trades series. Some interesting greek and roman statues were there and some weird stuff as well - like the bikes with milk cans above.

Outside the Budha Bar the next day...

When in London I have to eat chicken marsala

Closing night of "An Inspector Calls"

We were very lucky that we could attend the closing performance of "An Inspector Calls" The famous play by J.B. Priestley. It is about a mysterious inspector who interrogates a wealthy English family about their responsibility for the death of a young working class factory girl. At least that is what you tend to believe the first part of the play...

David Sedaris Live!

The whole reason for us to be in London this weekend is that David Sedaris was reading some of his new stories. It was wickedly funny! The good news is that he and Hugh are moving to England - so probably we will see him perform much often here.

Aliens have landed in London

Or is it the all new electric car system while being charged...?

The oldest trick in the world - with the new BMW S1000RR

Very nice trick - I still must convince Eddie that I can repeat it at home with our finest china...

The Cove - An Oscar for the documentary - a bloody story in real.

Every year on the first of September, at a cove in a small town called Taiji on the southeast coast of Japan's Honshu Island, a new fishing season begins: the dolphin season.
Twenty-six fishermen in 13 boats corral a few dozen dolphins into the small cove, where they kill the animals by stabbing them repeatedly with long harpoons and knives. The 50-square-foot inlet turns crimson, as if filled only with blood.

In the course of a six-month season, fishermen kill roughly 2,000 dolphins and sell the meat to local supermarkets for about U.S. $500 a dolphin. The fishermen supplement their income by taking about a hundred dolphins alive and selling them for tens of thousands of dollars each to aquariums.

The Sad, sad senator Roy Ashburn...

Anti-gay GOP California state Sen. Roy Ashburn was arrested for DUI yesterday after leaving Faces, a popular Sacramento gay bar, with an unidentified male passenger.  He is on of the many conservatives who came out the last couple of years.
He had to admit that he is gay during a live radio interview with Inga bark from Kern talk radio. "Do you want me to ask the question or are you tell us?" She asks Roy at 7 minutes into the interview. "Well..uhm.. I am gay..." he says :-)
Welcome to the gang Roy!

Scott Kelby in the Netherlands

Scott Kelby the top man from the National Association of Photoshop Professionals, the NAPP podcasts and writer of the most successful photoshop books was in Utrecht this week for the Professional Imaging 2010 expo. He's really a great gay and funny too. "The Dutch are SO into this stuff, and I can’t tell you how many people I met that watch every episode of Photoshop User TV, or D-Town TV, or have my books, or are Kelby Training Online subscribers—it was just amazing (I’m still stunned be recognized this far from home)."

And you thought "I Robot" was just a movie...

Kojiro is an advanced musculoskeletal humanoid robot under development at the University of Tokyo's JSK Robotics Laboratory. The Japanese are really serious about robots - this is an other proof of that.

New shoes

I couldn't resist these Puma Desmo's - in white they are something else then all the black dull motor boots out there.

Welcome SNAKE!

I had to wait a couple of weeks - but it was very worthwhile: My new bike has arrived!
The brand new Kawasaki Z1000. I have chosen the maroon brown with snake skin buddy - hence the name of my bike "SNAKE". And make that a viper or other ultra agile and fast snake - because that's what this bike is all about - wow :-)

The day I rediscovered... Nana Mouskouri!

I stumble upon this all-star session--including producer Quincy Jones, conductor Torrie Zito, and sound engineer Phil Ramone--Nana Mouskouri's 1962 US debut album: Nana in New York.
In phrasing and intonation, Mouskouri shows the influence of her jazz models Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Billie Holiday, yet her Greek accent, as well as her classical and opera vocal training, make for an utterly distinctive approach. It is really a gem!
(according to amazon Nana is "is the biggest-selling female artist of all time (...)" Never would suspect that would you?)

Same-Sex Marriage Becomes Legal in Washington

The day that even in the capital of the USA it is legal for gay's to marry we can hail this day as a milestone for equal rights and a symbolic victory.as same-sex marriage became legal in the nation’s capital.
Washington is now the sixth place in the nation where same-sex marriages can take
place. Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont also issue
marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

Court officials explained that the Marriage Bureau changed its license applications in
preparation for the new licenses. They now ask for the name of each “spouse” rather than
the “bride” and “groom.” Officials who perform the weddings read: “I now pronounce
you legally married” instead of “I now pronounce you man and wife.”

So let's hope that Capitol hill takes notice.

Open your "Eyes wide open" and what do you see?

This new Israeli movie "Eyes Wide Open" is about a gay romantic affair in the ultra orthodox jewish community. I wonder when I will be able to see it in Amsterdam.

Holland is empty

At 404 inhabitants per square kilometer, the Netherlands is one of the most densely populated nations in the world. The country’s population density, over 23 times the global average, is a factor in the national discussion on immigration, arming proponents of stricter rules with the slogan “Nederland is vol” (“The Netherlands is full”). While that sounds conversation-stoppingly irrefutable, the premise of that particular political slogan is easily proved wrong – with these maps made by Rem Koolhaasmad. The top map shows how full the Netherlands would be if its 15 million-strong population would be concentrated in the density of Los Angeles. Repeating that experiment with the population density of  LA, the second map shows how all of the Netherlands’ inhabitants would live cheek-by-jowl in an area no larger than 600 km2, which would occupy no more than 1.44% of the total territory of the Netherlands – concentrated in the south of the country’s Limburg panhandle. The third map unwraps that same area to a strip along the 345 km-long (214 mile) Belgian-Dutch border, which would be no wider than 1.75 km (1.08 mile)...
I guess the Netherlands is really empty!

I like the "ENTER" note :-))

Popular Photography's 16th Annual Readers' Contest

The Grand Prize winner Dennis Frates is a good example that photo's aren't really photo's anymore but photoshop compositions :-)
